The Story Of Our Littlest Volunteer
By Ranger Sara
O'neill Regional Park has been a fun hiking
and camping park since 1948. Cheri Miller has been a park volunteer since
1993. Cheri saw the park as a great opportunity to do her part in helping
to protect and preserve a little piece of Orange Countys limited wilderness
areas. Through multiple rebuilding efforts of volunteer naturalists at the
park, Cheri remained the constant. Cheerful and enthusastic Cheri was always
there to lend a helping hand.
Then one winter day the announcement came "There's
going to be a little Cheri". We were all so excited. As the months
went by we all watched as Cheri hiked and her belly grew bigger and bigger
and bigger. We waited, the hikers waited, Cheri waited. When Cheri could
hike no longer the park rangers designed a bulletin board for Cheri to say
"Thank You" and "See you after the baby".
The Happy Day. September 16,1997 the day finally
came. Sara Marlee Miller came to greet the world. A beautiful blonde haired,
blue eyed baby girl.
Cheri and Sara resumed conducting nature hikes
at the park. Sara was the hit of each hike. Sara cooed and smiled from her
pouch as Cheri hiked through the park. As Sara got older she began riding
in a back pack entertaining the crowds with her charming smile.
Cheri and Sara plan to remain volunteer naturalists
at O'neill Park. Sometime when your hiking at the park you may bump into
them, say Hello. Our world is a little brighter for knowing them.
HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO
