The following was sent into Canyonlife by Dan Rawson of Modjeska Canyon.....
"New Furry Friend in the Canyons."
We have a new "friend" in the canyons.
The attached photos are of a very large cat that were taken near Modjeska Canyon on Santiago Canyon Road.
This cat is pure white with black stripes and spots, a bob tail, and about 3 inch black tufts at the tips of it's ears.
It is over 36" at the shoulders which makes it far to large to be a Bobcat but it is clearly not a Cougar either.
It's face and markings closely resembles a Lynx.

UPDATE 6/01 from Ranger Sara:
"I was checking out the canyonlife site and wanted to lend a little help. The article "Big Cat" is absolutely a Bobcat. Not uncommon for a bobcat to be about 3 feet tall, have large tuffs on ears and cheeks, and I have seen one with a tail long enough to drag the ground. Hope that eases some peoples minds, just keep the chickens couped up at night!!
